Warrior Gym is pleased to welcome the fighting system of Kajukenbo to its line-up of highly effective, street savvy, mixed martial arts. Kajukenbo features a combination of Karate, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Kenpo, and Chinese Boxing, meaning that it is eclectic in nature, dynamic in evolution, and devastating in delivery. Kajukenbo is America’s first martial art, born on the mean streets of post-World War II Honolulu, and put to successful use for over 60 years in the defense of ordinary citizens against would-be thugs. Are you looking for a no-nonsense, street-tested system of self-defense? Then look no further than Kajukenbo! All ages and abilities are welcome to participate in this highly-disciplined martial art that emphasizes awareness, hard and fast striking, and the cultivation of Ohana, or family, among practitioners.
Warrior Gym’s Kajukenbo classes are taught by Sifu Richard Cruz, who has been practicing martial arts for over 30 years. He is the one man responsible for bringing Kajukenbo to the Washington, D.C. area from California, where he studied under Grand Master Woody Sims. Sifu Cruz prepares students for the realities of street fighting in a way that is rigorous, respectful, and effective. He emphasizes a family-oriented, open door style of training that is welcoming to all ages and abilities. Discover your inner Warrior with Kajukenbo!
